Pontefract and Liquorice go hand in hand - you can't say one without thinking of the other ! Liquorice, a medicinal plant, was introduced into the area around the Middle Ages, the Crusaders probably being the group who introduced the plant when returning from their Crusades. The plaque is situated on the road that links Dunhill's, founded in 1760 to the former works of Robinson and Wordsworth of around 1877.
